    Erta Ale to Dallol

Start your descent from Erta Ale at first light before it gets too hot, and head towards Dallol after a short rest, which could be about a 3-hour drive away.

Spend your afternoon in the Dallol geothermal area, taking in the otherworldly vistas of brilliant yellow and red mineral deposits, hot springs, and salt formations.

    Semera to Erta Ale

Depart Semera early in the morning towards Kusrewad. This journey can take up to 4-5 hours. Pack plenty of water and protective clothing for the scorching temperatures you'll encounter.

At Kusrewad, you'll need to prepare for the trek to Erta Ale. Again, it's best to climb during the cooler periods such as late afternoon or evening.

Enjoy an evening ascent to Erta Ale and experience the natural night-time fireworks of the lava lake. It's a 13 km hike, which generally takes a few hours.

Camp overnight ata designated area near Erta Ale, allowing you to appreciate the volcano's glow through the night.

Spend your afternoon in the Dallol geothermal area, taking in the otherworldly vistas of brilliant yellow and red mineral deposits, hot springs, and salt formations.

Because Dallol is one of the hottest places on the planet, your exploration will be best managed during the earlier and later parts of the day.

For the night, camp or find basic lodging in Hamed Ela to rest and prepare for the next day's expedition to Lake Afdera.

After savouring the early morning serenity of Dallol and perhaps catching a final glimpse or photograph of the sunrise over the colorful springs, you'll begin the journey to Lake Afdera. The drive may take about 2-3 hours.

Spend your day at Lake Afdera, observing salt mining and learning about the way salt has been harvested here for centuries. The lake's vast saline waters against the desert backdrop offer beautiful scenery.

    Day 4
  • Lake Afdera to Semera

Utilize the morning for any remaining activities around Lake Afdera, such as taking photographs or a relaxing dip in the hot springs found near the lake, believed by locals to have therapeutic properties.

Leave Lake Afdera by mid-morning to ensure you have enough time to make the journey back to Semera, which can again take approximately 4-5 hours, planning to arrive before dusk.

Upon arrival in Semera, you can spend the night as per your preferences or if your schedule permits, proceed to catch any post-tour transportation or continue your journey in Ethiopia.
